As we age, our pores get larger, making us look older. Women typically notice larger pores in their late twenties and thirties. Collagen keeps our skin and pores looking firm and youthful, but it begins to breakdown as we age and our skin loses laxity, resulting in larger pores and the development of fine lines and wrinkles.
Pore-minimizing products will help your pores look clearer and therefore appear smaller if you use them on a regular basis. Keeping skin clean, well exfoliated, and removing your makeup every night, are simple, easy ways to help reduce the appearance of pore size and help prevent enlargement in the first place.
Wearing sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection protects against photo-aging including enlarged pores. Research shows that a substantial amount of premature aging comes from incidental sun exposure when we’re unaware of it – such as when we’re out shopping or even grabbing lunch. Wearing sunscreen every day will help to prevent the signs of premature aging. Get in the habit of wearing sunscreen with and SPF 15 or higher EVERY DAY, even in the winter and even when you are not planning to spend a lot of time outdoors.
I always tell my patients to look at product ingredient lists. To refine pores you need the Salicylic Acid and/or Willow Bark Extract.
Anti-aging ingredients also help to maintain and promote collagen, because once your collagen levels decline, the pore does not hold its shape and becomes easily enlarged. Anti-aging ingredients to look for include Lycopene, Peptides, and Vitamins A, C, and E.
