They reduce the surface tension on those other molecules (like water), which shrinks them instantly. (Honestly, it’s not unlike the Pym-particles that give Ant-Man his ability to decrease and increase in size.)

Micelles are typically used in cleansers (you’re probably familiar with micellar water).
